The Power Macintosh 5400 and 5500 were historically significant as Apple’s late-1990s all-in-one consumer and education desktops, combining the simplicity of a built-in display with the more modern PowerPC hardware Apple was using in its mainstream home machines. Together, they represent the last major evolution of Apple’s pre-iMac all-in-one design, bridging the Performa era and the company’s later reinvention of the consumer Mac with the iMac. This particular model lived a harsh live and so the case was painted to match the Macintosh TV black color.
